Objectives: The proper selection of multi-modality imaging to assess efficacy of novel anti-cancer therapeutic agents requires careful consideration early in cancer therapy trial design. This study measures the effect of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute's (UPCI) IRAT program on inclusion of CT and FDG PET in therapy trials.
Methods: Cancer therapy trials were assessed before and after implementation of IRAT for utilization of CT and FDG PET. Image modality for tumor metric measurement was obtained for UPCI cancer therapy trials 1 year prior to IRAT compared to 1 year after IRAT implementation.
Results: Forty protocols were assessed before and after IRAT implementation
|
. In addition to increasing FDG PET inclusion in trial design, IRAT facilitated PACS storage and server development for triage and analysis of images and provided a conduit for efficient image data exchange.
Conclusions: IRAT increased use of FDG PET and streamlined image management in cancer therapy trials.
