Learning Objectives: 1. Present pathological mechanisms of increased FDG accumulation in the joints of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). 2. Clarify clinical and potential utilities as well as limitations of FDG-PET in the assessment of JIA with multimodality correlation.

Abstract Body: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a troublesome chronic inflammatory joint disease of childhood. Although accurate diagnosis and assessment of JIA is essential for good management, imaging modalities such as plain radiograph and MRI are insufficient for its purpose, because these modalities represent only morphological changes of joint lesions. FDG-PET imaging is considered a useful tool for visualizing pathological sequences of JIA in the molecular level. In combination with other morphological imaging modalities such as MRI, it may overcome the limitations of the individual modality. In this exhibit, we present both pathological principles of FDG avidity in JIA and representative clinical PET images correlated with other modalities. Limitations of each modality as well as clinical and potential utilities of multimodality imaging including fusion technique will also be described.
